The Paradox of Disease Prevention

An important article in JAMA by Dr. Harvey Fineberg from the IOM:

“Prevention of disease is often difficult to put into practice. Among the obstacles: the success of prevention is invisible, lacks drama, often requires persistent behavior change, and may be long delayed…”

My question: what can be done to get more medical professionals, patients, and family members to recognize the importance of prevention?
