The answer to yesterday’s “Clinical Quiz” was Lemierre’s syndrome, which causes thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein.
Interestingly, not all Lemierre’s syndrome is caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum. MRSA was recently described in one clinical case.
Lemierre’s syndrome was described by André Lemierre, a French bacteriologist.
