The Center Cannot Hold

The Center Cannot Hold, a chamber opera in two acts, with music composed by psychiatrist Kenneth B. Wells and libretto by Wells and law professor Elyn Saks, may be the first opera devoted to telling the story of psychiatric illness. Based on Saks’ memoir of the same name describing her experience with schizophrenia, the opera premiered in July 2016 at UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and can be streamed on Vimeo.
