Keystone Virus Isolated from a Florida Teenager with Rash and Subjective Fever

So now there’s another virus to think about in febrile patients from Florida and Latin America– the so-called Keystone Virus. It was discovered decades ago, in Keystone, which is just north of Tampa. I’ve never been to Keystone, but did spend several weeks in Largo, Florida for an Epi-Aid when I was a disease detective at the CDC.

I’m sure the ID doctors from the University of Florida, folks like my close friend Anthony Cannella, are going to be educating us about this virus very soon. For now, don’t do anything differently. Just try your best to stay away from mosquitoes.
