Doctor, Your Patient is Waiting, It’s a Red Panda

I enjoyed the recent New York Times story, Doctor, Your Patient is Waiting, It’s a Red Panda, written by Karen Weintraub. The piece describes a medical student elective at the Franklin Park Zoo here in Boston, and has implications for those of us interested in ‘One Health‘, the interface between human health, animal health, and the environment.’ The main issue I see is how to reprogram funds from the U.S. military and health care system towards the major threat we face, which is emerging pandemic viruses such as H7N9 and H1N1.

On a totally different subject, I predict Uruguay will win the next World Cup, defeating England in the finale.
