West Nile Virus and Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh

Fox News predicts a “Democratic onslaught” over the nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh. Meanwhile, the New York Times says Democrats are “going on the attack.” That headline might help the Times sell newspapers and advertisements.

But it misses the point.

In my opinion, a toxic combination of hyper-masculinity, rape culture, homophobia, misogyny, racism, xenophobia, militarism, and de-regulated crony capitalism, fueled by technology addiction (especially to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and smartphones), food addiction (to deadly corporate foods), drug use (including prescription medications), over-consumption, lack of physical activity, fear, anger, ignorance, violence, and hatred, have brought America to the brink of an economic and cultural meltdown.

Mainstream Democrats are just as guilty as Republicans. Why don’t Democrats call for pacifism, as the president flies off to the NATO summit? Because pacifism is suspiciously feminine. And men are in charge.

So America needs a third party, or a revolution within the Democratic Party and the Republican party.

And women of color need to be in charge for a change. White men like me, Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump need to pipe down. New leaders like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are stepping up and guiding us forward.

Lives are at stake.

The Affordable Care Act. Women’s health. Funding for infectious disease doctors like me to investigate West Nile Virus, here in Boston and around the United States. It’s spreading, folks.

Will you be silent or will you speak out?

That’s all.
