on the safety of fluoroquinolone antibiotics

the fda recently reinforced safety information about serious low blood sugar levels and mental health side effects with fluoroquinolone (quinolone) antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, levofloxacin) and required label changes.

i’m not sure what to make of the new FDA label changes.  i’ll have to review the data. what do you think about the safety of quinolones? usually we think about qtc prolongation, the risk of clostridium difficile, and tendon damage, but it seems like we need to think hard before giving quinolones.

please leave a reply below.

      1. Why would you risk it for anything other than life-threatening infections?
It’s likd using an A Bomb to kill a mosquito, otherwise.
My life was ruined after Cipro for a simple UTI!
